Randal Brereton

A product of Michaelhouse and Natal University, Randal joined the firm in 1973. He is admitted to practise as an Attorney, Notary and Conveyancer and holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Taxation. Randal practises in the fields of Property Law, Commercial Law and in Estate Planning and Administration.

Randal is an avid fly fisherman with an abiding love of the outdoors.


Byron Johnstone

Born in Durban and schooled at Clifton, Byron completed his LLB through the University of South Africa and joined the firm in 2015.

Byron was admitted as an Attorney of the High Court in 2016 and practises mainly in the field of Litigation. Byron heads up the Firm’s Correspondent Department.

In his spare time, Byron plays club rugby, is passionate about travelling and is an avid foodie.


David Brereton

Schooled in Natal, David matriculated at Michaelhouse and went on to complete his BA and LLB degrees at Rhodes University. Articled at John Hudson & Company in 2009, David was admitted as an Attorney in early 2010 and practised in the Litigation and Family Law Department until 2012.

After working as an Associate with one of Johannesburg’s oldest law firms, David joined Rand Merchant Bank and FNB Business Bank, developing a sound knowledge of corporate law, risk and compliance, banking and Industrial Relations.

David rejoined the Firm in 2019 and brings with him a diverse skill set and knowledge drawn from experience both in and out of the Corporate World.


Nicholas Williams

Nicholas joined the firm in 2017 after obtaining an LLB from the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Having completed his articles with the Firm, Nick was admitted as an Attorney in 2019.

With experience in all aspects of litigation, Nick is able to apply a broad based knowledge of risk assessment and consideration to his speciality in the administration of deceased estates. In keeping with the ethos of the Firm Nick approaches all matters with the aim of building long lasting relationships with his clients.

Outside the Firm, Nick plays hockey at provincial level.



John Hudson

Educated at Cordwalles, Hilton College and Natal University. John founded the firm in 1952 and continues to practise as a consultant to the firm. John brings nearly 70 years of wisdom and considerable experience to the firm in the fields of Property Law, Commercial Law, Family Law, Wills, Trusts and Estate matters.


Brian Agar

A recognised leading expert in Sectional Title, Shareblock and Property law, the firm had the great pleasure of Brian’s joining as a Consultant in 2018. Having graduated from the Universities of Cape Town and Natal, Brian commenced practice for his own account in 1956, growing his firm to over twenty partners and holding the position of Chairman for many years. Brian’s considerable expertise in property law has seen him involved in numerous high profile matters.

Emile Beetge

A Glenwood High School Old Boy and LLB Graduate from University of The Free State, Emile joined the firm as a Candidate Attorney in 2020. Emile is an active member of Round Table, enjoys golf, and plays rugby on Club level.
